Astral Records & Music calls It a day and all new artist news will be directly available from the new DEAD Famous Website

Well guys we have reached the end of a milestone and with the close of the 2007 music year in a few short weeks I am very pleased that this will be the last posting of any news for Astral Records & Music and its worldwide artist roster. The fact is that the new brand, label and artist portal at DEAD Famous International has kicked off in such a big way that we feel that Astral Records has had its day and so we bid a fond farewell to the label as it stands in the market today. The great news here is that in its (6) year history the numerous incarnations of the labels websites have clocked up a massive 12M hits from users all over the world. Since the latest Astral Website was launched in March 2006 the site had clocked up a massive 6.4 million web hits and thats certainly saying something. The website will still remain online and may even undergo a bit of a face lift in the future if the new directors feel it's warranted but until that time let's just leave it at that and move on with all new news for the label being posted on the new DEAD Famous Website and its Google recognised RSS news feed.

So from now on the only links you will need to check out for all the latest artists news will be:

Astral Records Begins legal proceedings against Blue Pie Productions

A recent decision has been made and all our artists notified that we are now serving notice and beginning litigation against our once digital distributor, Blue Pie Productions (Sydney) for breach of contract and the sale of illegal downloads. It is the intention of the label to seek the return of all our artist content under these proceedings and to have a full and final accounting statement and royalty payments made for any and alll sales to date under the now nullified non exclusive Agreement with the company. We are hoping for a swift resolution here and in lieu of this unfortunate development which clearly besmirched the good name of Astral Records & Music we are pleased to announce that a new deal for digital distribution of our worldwide catalogue has been signed by the CEO of MMD in New York, Jerry Capaldi. A deal was agreed where the company would take on total non exclusive digital distribution of some (30) plus titles into their extensive platform in early 2008.

Latest Artist Signings to the Label

It is with great pleasure that we announce our latest signings to the DEAD Famous label. Sex & Violins are a new style of three piece that hail from Washington in the US. With a great sense of the Seattle sound the album "Sex & Violins" is chock full of quality first run singles. Another great signing is energy driven (5) piece. The Vaine from Sydney in Australia. This progressive metalcore band has an incredible hard edged style for a troup of such young kids and their debut album is nearing completion before being released in March 2008 on the label. Another heavy edged quartet is Spiral Trance who hail from Milwaukee in Wisconsin. Great melodic tunes with heavy well balanced production are a great indication of a classic rock n roll album that should set the market well and truly on fire. Also on both the digital and physical release front is Australian hard rockin (4) piece, Snake...who's sophomore album, "Strike" is at manufacturing at the moment and will be released through Koch Distribution in February 2008. We also picked up digital rights to, Doubleverything (New York), JT (Australia), Crack Horse (UK) and Drift Effect (US). So all in all a damn good year for the new label which has come leaps and bounds since its launch in August 2008. The My Space sites for both Astral and DEAD Famous have also gone great guns this year. Tocheck out the individual web pages for the new signings click through on the links below.

New Strategic Alliances signed with the label

2007 was not only a milestone for Astral Records online but also for both label enttities with regard to many quality third party licensing deals done which will totally rock into gear come the first weeks of the new year in 2008. A major Licensing deal for the entire catalogue was done with music giant, APM Music and its Independent partner Indie911 for ingestion into a highly lucrative film, television and advertising platform in the US. In addition a blanket deal wqas done with PUMP Audio based in New York for the low end of the indie roster. Janice Doll, Damnzal, Fyrefly and Kitsch had all their albums picked up for licensing. A new non exclusive digital distribution deal was done with Modern Media Distribution (MMD) in New York and the best part of this deal is that this company owns and spearheads the highly successful, Global Ad Sales Corporation in the US. These guys are the new viral marketing dealers and they invest hard currency into the catalogues they get behind and really believe in. A highly impacting PR and release deal was signed with Autona Media in Cologne, Germany to actively promote the harder edged end of the roster. Artists picked up in the first instance for extensive PR and release campaigns for the GSA include, New Self High, Damnzal, Domenica and Dark Shift. A great video rotation deal was done with local homegrown national network, Asylum TV which will see some (30) plus artist clips put in high rotation over the holiday period and the programs broadcast is repeated (3) times a week affording the label great visibility at a time when it counts the most. A promotional deal was struck with the new look, Rocknation Magazine in the US. A bi-monthly national publication with over 400,000 circulation has agreed to run a series of half page inside front cover ads for the priority releases that we have aligned with our partner, Nightmare Records in the US. We also did a great production deal for the label with Atlantis Studios in Melbourne where the label has been recording some great local artists and their albums which include, Amelia Bloom, Three Letter Word, Tony Cuic and A Destined Belonging. An artist showcase deal was penned with CEO and owner of Alpha Music Group based in New York, Sylvie Harris to present our artists in a quality downtown venue in Soho NY to such major labels as, Universal, Atlantic, Interscope, Capitol, Columbia and Koch Records. This year we showcased artists such as Floor Thirteen (Canada), Hannah Wolff (Chicago) and Dark Shift (Wisconsin) to very receptive A&R audiences and are still looking at various offers for the artists. A blanket deal was done with Music Gorilla for all of Janice Doll's album material to be licensed into the global MTV / VH1 broadcast platform. The results for such positioning should show up through the alignment of the material in the new slate of MTV style reality and music programs slated for 2008. Major Website Issues Now Resolved...finally!

As some of you know, for about the seven days both the DeadFamousArtists.com site and Astral Records & Music sites have been down or sporadically performing at best. Seems our host decided to both update some of their software as well as add a new drive to our account - this before sending out any notifications or forwarnings so that we could backup the site. We had made a ton of changes sitewide since our last backup 7 days prior to this and as a result of their updates we seen catastrophic failure across both of our sites. I personally have not been to bed in the last 36+ hours as I worked diligently around the clock with our host to get the issues resolved. Currently both sites are up and running, and although all issues have been resolved at the DeadFamousArtists.com (I made this highest priority), the Astralrecordsandmusic.com site is still having serious issues. The Astralrecordsandmusic.com site was originally built with our host client html editing software built into our control panel, and when the updates and patches were made, it changed our instant access Domain names which is what caused the sitewide catastrophic failure. The DeadFamous site was built with some of the best and latest site building software in the world (IMHO) and thats why it it was so easy to fix. However, since all the the pages in the Astral site were built using the host accounts online sitebuilder, as a result almost all the images were set with the instant access domains which have now changed as all the prefixed are randomly generated. Our host instists that this cannot be changed now and so they are seeking to get a "global fix" from the software company that actually created the sitebuilding software. I would like to, at this moment, take the time to humbly apologize on behalf of both Mike and I. In the last 24 hours 2e have went from pure rage to extreme embarrasment and then back again. I assure you that there was no way that either of us could have possibily done anything different to avoid this as we had no forwarning of our hosts latest "software update". We are currently looking into other options and may possibly be moving the entire site to a new host in the coming weeks - which of course will mean another 24 hour black out as it takes time for a domain that has been moved from one host to another to propegate out across the WWW. As the issues across the DeadFamousArtists.com site have currently been resolved(knock on wood) I once again welcome you with open arms and sincerely wish for you to enjoy your visit and some of the best music and indie artists in the world. Sincerely, Tony Boswell Strategic Content & Development Director Astral Records / Dead Famous Artists International P.S. If you find any further issues on the site (i.e. - broken links, images not posting, bad feeds) Please contact either Mike or myself IMMEDIATLY with the URL of the page your were on and exactly where and what in the page you think is wrong. Just click the Contact Link anywhere on the site and use our form on the page so we can get the issue resolved ASAP!! Thanks!! Thanks for your pateince..Tony Boswell, Strategis Development & Content Director. Check out the brand new website here: http://www.deadfamousartists.com

Janice Doll Brazilian Album Update & Brazilian Newspaper Feature Article

Brazilian rockers Janice Doll recently emerged from the studio with Producer, Stuart Epps and will be featured in a major news article in a top rated Brazilian newspaper. Recovering Losses Denied to enter the UK by British Immigration, Brazilian band, Janice Doll didn’t think twice and recruited from London a Platinum rated producer to record their second album in Brasilia. The English producer Stuart Epps is in Brasilia to record the second disc of Janice Doll which are predominantly a hard driving rock alternative band. The Brazilian group planned to record in London but they were denied to enter the UK by the British Immigration because the airline lost their instruments and belongings. "We insisted that we needed to record, but our musical instruments were in the luggage that were lost", says Paul Hodel, vocalist of the band. The cargo was found after a delay of eight days. In order to avoid postponing too much of the album recording, the British producer came to Brazil with the exclusive mission of producing the disc right here in one of the countries loval studios. Epps, who came to Brazil for the first time, leaves Brazil today satisfied in the knowledge of tracking a good record for the band on the 22nd of October. Stuart Epps is well known in the music scene. He already produced discs of internationally renowned artists - Led Zeppelin, Bryan Adams, Elton John and Oasis among others. About the Brazilian band's sound, he showed interest and evaluates: "Their style varies from the more heavy rock tracks to ballads and always highlighted with a strong chorus." This feature alone has attracted his curiosity and with experience enough to detect a hit, even if its far away, emphasizes: "It’s unusual to see bands moving between styles, and it’s a very positive step in today's copycat market. I like to use my experience with new bands. This kind of music is currently well accepted in the market today." History The Janice Doll band was created in 2003 and has participated in festivals such as Rolla Pedra and Cuca Fresca, and also have been playing many smaller and more intimate shows. The band is formed by Paul Hodel (guitar and vocals), Frank Martins (guitar) and brothers Leo (bass) and Fabio Krieger (drums). They managed to be noticed abroad because of the increasing power and appeal of the Internet. "We created a site on Multiply and hosted our clip on You Tube (video site on the Internet)", says Paul. "In less than one month, the video had received more than 100,000 views." Such a success drew the attention of the Australian based CEO of Astral Records and DEAD Famous Artists, Mike Puskas, who signed the band and became their manager since March 2007. Puskas indicated that UK producer Stuart Epps would be well suited to work with Janice Doll under the new DEAD Famous Record label. "We have already received invitations to play in festivals in the United States and Canada," said the singer. The Janice Doll band presents in their list of influences, the trios Nirvana, Placebo and Muse. The songs are all in English, although the band doesn’t discard the possibility of writing something in Portuguese. The recording sessions happened in the studios of Philippe Seabra (vocalist and guitarist of the Plebe Rude band)in North Lake, Brasília, Brazil. Seabra, who worked during four years with the bassist Leo Krieger with the Colina band, provided his particular space believing in the potential of the musicians. "For me it’s an honor my studio had been chosen because they are fantastic musicians", he praises. "It's great to have the opportunity to watch closely the production of this album." Coming from a time when the federal capital was seen, loud and clear as a source of rock artists, he has now another vision of the scenery: "Currently Brasilia is not anymore the rock capital. The title goes to Goiania. But it doesn’t mean that only the good bands stem from that city" consider, citing groups in other states such as Superguidis (RS), Los Porongas (AC) and Suzana Flag (PA).

Astral Records & DEAD Famous Records jump ship from C4 and sign new deal with Fontana North & Universal Distribution for Canadian Market

Major news today for all our artists and their worldwide fan base. What can I say but we know when we're not wanted and so rather than try to work to an unworkable compromise we would rather cut our losses and jump ship. I'm talking about our Canadian distribution deal with C4 Records / Koch Canada Distribution. The skinny is simply this, the company directors sold 75% of the label to a radio syndicated network in Canada and the new owners have very different ideas as to what they have in store for the label in 2008. Well no use in crying over spilt milk we say and so we have been approached and agreed to sign a deal with Fontana North / Universal Distribution for that market only. This will mean that all our releases that are earmarked for US release will have a percentage of their stock go to the Fontana Warehouse for shipping to the big retail chains in the Canadian market. WE are excited to say the least that we mnanaged to pick up such a cool deal on the rebound of dropping our other label and distributor. For all our Canadian fans you can expect to see local releases of Janice Doll, Damnzal, Fyrefly, Sex & Patriotism, Snake and The Vaine among others hit stores in February 2008. For more check out the website: http://www.fontananorth.com/

DEAD Famous Records signs a deal with National Magazine, Rocknation to run US Marketing Campaigns

A deal was signed today with the CEO of Rocknation magazine based in Minnesota and DEAD Famous Records to do feature advertising and editorial for all our artist releases for the rest of 2007 and throughout the new 2008 music year. With the street syle magazine being delivered to all hard rock and metal stores nationwide and having found such a consistent rate of success. The Magazine has been approached by Time/Warner cable in the US to run its own Television format on the network. This will give all our artists a massive rate of national exposure and really push the brand into a steadily igniting  new market place. To kick this association off watch out for half page ads with a redeemable coupon in the November issue which features both Janice Doll and Damnzal's album releases and offers a $2.00 discount to all fans of the band who then redeem their coupon at our new online store when purchasing the full CD. Stay tuned for a simple nuts and bolts campaign for both Fyrefly (UK) and Snake (Aust) releases in December. To check out more visit the links below. http://www.rocknation.us

Sydney rockers, THE VAINE Sign with DEAD Famous Records for the US and Canadian Market

We are pleased to announce after a long and lengthy negotiation the worldwide signing of Sydney hardcore band, The Vaine. The funny thing here is that for all those of you who know me well enough also know that I don't believe that the local talent pool is anything more than a pathetic mimic of whats already out there. IN short we don't really have an original bone in our body and thats truly sad. Nut soemthing about this five piece from Sydney struck me as being different. Best of all they really do define the genre very well and are a worthy candidate along with the labels support to take their unique brand of hard rockin emo music to a worldwide audience. The band are currently in the studio recording an additional (7) new tunes which will be added to the existing tracks of the new EP and released as a full length album on the DEAD Famous label and will be released in the US on Nightmare/Koch International and Fontanna Universal in Canada in late February 2008. The digital version of the initial EP, "Regrets & Hollow Threats" will be avaialble digitally on the retail platform worldwide by the end of December ad just in time for the Christmas holiday period. While the album should be available digitally by the 28th of January. There is a label showcase and tour planned for February / March 2008.

Some Background

The Vaine are an energetic undefinable five-piece from Sydney's west. Featuring a line up consisting of three females (Shelley, Steph and Clik) and two guys (Bee and Jack) since early 2006 they have made their mark on the local music scene playing shows at venues like The Gaelic, The Embassy Hotel and The Manning Bar. Also opening the main stage at Homebake 2006. With their first EP (Regrets and Hollow Threats) in circulation for a year now, and the second in post-production The Vaine continue to bring their energy and explosive music for all their global fans. As young as The Vaine are they are nothing short of exceptionally musically talented. With the drive of these intelligent and talented teens we know they will go far. The band are made up of the following well versed musicians and writers. For more check out the bands My Space here: http://www.myspace.com/thevaine

Shelley Partridge - Vocals

Bilal (Bee) Fouani - Lead Guitar

Clik Rogan - Vocals / Guitar

Steph Rogan - Bass

Jack Hammer - Drums

The band have landed the coveted support slots on the NSW leg of the Boomtown Showdown in November 2007. Details below.

Amelia Bloom emerges from the studio with new radio single for her soon to be released Maxi Single

MPM managed artist, Amelia Bloom (13yo) emerges from Atlantis Studio with a brand new song for her Maxi single to be released in early 2008. The song, "No Time Left" was written by Mike Puskas and Amelia and is a very radio friendly tune filled with some big chorus hooks and a nice dynamic pop production. The song was produced by Mike Puskas and enginneered and mixed by Matt Lefroy. Special thanks go to our session pleyers, Ian Kittman (Tim Rodgers Band) on drums, Melissa Pollard on BV's and Louise Spindler on Bass (courtesy of Three Letter Word) The song is a fun parody between kids of today and the parental relationship that has changed due to our busy lifestyles. The tune has been submitted to a number of our Film & TV licensing partners for review and will join the other tunes on the 3 Track Maxi Single being, Absolutely Perfect and Dreaming in Black & White. Mike Puskas voted in a s board member of AMCOS and made an associate publishing member of APRA

Well it was a big day for me on the personal front with a couple of great additions to my professional status. I was voted in as full board memeber of AMCOS (Australian Mechanical Copyright Owners Society) and made an associate publisher member of APRA (Australasian Performing Rights Association) This is the highest accolade a joint record label and publisher can get in my country of good old OZ. What it means is that I will now have a say as a publisher in new policy decisions proposed and passed by the board of both organisations as to the future of the song writers and publishers in the Australian Industry...and that my friends is a good thing. In short, I'm stoked and highly flattered with these awards. Check out the websites for more. http://www.apra.com.au and http://www.amcos.com.au

Mike Puskas produces debut album for Melbourne based 3 piece, "Three Letter Word" at Atlantis Studios in Melbourne

I have just spent the last 10 days tracking a great new pop style album for Melbourne based three piece, Three Letter Word in Atlantis Studios in Melbourne. The album, yet untitled is full of great radio pop with a UK style pop/rock feel and a hard edge structure and some beautifully layered vocals and harmony's provided by the effervescent twosome, Mel Pollard and Louise Spindler. All Drums and percussion was provided by band drummer, "Duck" and the project was engineered by Matt Lefroy and produced by Mike Puskas. The album is slated to be mixed to perfection in December 07 and masterd by Drew Lavyne at All Digital in NY (Sting, Foo Fighters, Chilli Peppers, Dave Mathews) etc. The album will be released on the DEAD Famous label worldwide and will be distributed by Koch International in the US. You will be a ble to shortly buy the album through our deal with I Tunes and CD Baby among other quality digital retailers across the globe. Below are a few pics of the band and myself in the studio laying it all down for the masses.

The stunning and powerful Janice Doll rock the house down above

Janice Doll - London Please (Music Review)

Don’t be fooled by the name, Janice Doll are four Brazilian lads, who have come together to create some riotous noise. A wall of guitars meet soaring anthemic vocals in London Please to bring the ear a pretty damn fine song. The key lies in the cunning breakdowns following the rousing choruses. Nice work indeed. They are also not afraid to head off into some Rage Against The Machine territory with some great rapping over the middle eight. Very interesting… Watch out for their visit to the UK soon.
